I watched the massacre last night when LSU just ran all over Georgia Tech. Sure LSU scored first but Tech came right back and had it under control under the special teams play let us down big time.
But then the coach called some nutsy plays and I started to
think – Is he doing this on purpose?
Reason:
Tech started 19 freshman and sophomores this season. He is looking at the future, not now.
Johnson always plays as the underdog. Remember, he came from
Navy, where he was perpetual underdog and in every game this year he told the
Tech team in every game that the other team should run all over them.
Johnson coached at
I don’t think he went into the game planning to lose
intentionally, but after the dropped punt and terrible fake punt, then he said
– Why not?
Not that he told the team that, but the way he play called the rest of the game.
Give credit to the Tigers. They had a whole month to scheme against the triple option and did it well. This takes nothing away from their own strength as a team.
I think he let LSU run all over them this year because he wants a bitter taste in the mouths of these freshmen and sophomores. To heck with what the loss does for ACC rankings in the future for BCS reasons.
I think he wants to next year move up to a BCS bowl and play
as underdogs and then move them towards a title game in 3 or 4 years, still as
an underdog.
Johnson never wants to be the out front guy, he wants to be
the underdog. He learned that from Erk Russell at
My guess is that he will use this game as motivation for a long time.
Think I'm nuts? Tell me why.
